Community Involvement

At Monzo Catanese Hillegass we strive to give back to our community and participate as a firm and individually in many civic, recreational, charitable and faith based activities.  Below is a sampling of some of the events and organizations that we have been involved in over the years.

  • The Firm has been an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. Anthony Monzo has served as the leader of Cub Scout Pack 73 and on the committee of Boy Scout Troop 73, and has been actively involved in fundraising efforts for the Garden State Council and Baysea District.

  • The Firm has supported and served on committees to raise funds for Cape Regional Medical Center, and specifically the renovation and upgrading of its patient rooms and the Thomas and Claire Brodessor Cancer Center and is now working on a campaign to assist in the construction of a new Surgical Wing.

  • Anthony Monzo is a member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Development Committee for Family Promise of Cape May County, a charitable organization that partners with almost all of the churches in Cape May County in providing food and shelter to homeless families with children.

  • Anthony Monzo and Dan Reeves have organized the first and only New Jersey chapter of the Christian Legal Society, which is  a national organization of Christian lawyers focused on defending and advancing our inalienable rights to life and religious liberty, and in providing legal assistance to the poor and needy.

  • The Firm has also supported several other charitable events in our region including Family Promise, Sole Run For Character, Life Rolls On, Live Like Lozier and several other charitable and community events.

  • Doug Burke presently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Cape May County Volunteers in Medicine, and Anthony Monzo was part of the original steering committee that organized this organization to provide free medical services to the uninsured population in Cape May County.

  • Dan Reeves participated in a mission trip to the village of San Marcos in the Dominican Republic in January 2014. While on the trip, he helped run a vacation Bible school for the local children, helped with the ongoing construction of a community center, and shared his faith with the villagers

  • John has provided pro bono legal counsel for a number of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitioners through South Jersey Legal Services Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project.   John has served as a judge in the Cape May County High School Mock Trial competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and looks forward to continuing to volunteer for this great event into the future.  John spent many hours in the Rutgers School of Law – Camden’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Project wherein he provided counsel to many low income individuals in regards to their federal and state income tax filings.
